The iThemes Education Program (Beta) was created in response to the increasing gap between what schools and colleges are teaching and what high tech companies are looking for in new hires.
In a recent interview on the CBS Morning News Show, Sam Tarantino, co-founder of Grooveshark (and college dropout) talked about the challenges he has in hiring people who graduate with degrees in technology, but who are lacking the necessary skills to contribute and compete in the current technology environment. He points out there is a “miscalibration between what schools are teaching and what high tech companies are hiring”.
Schools and universities (at least many of them, according to Tarantino) are not keeping up with the times. This is a common concern we hear from many of our high tech colleagues. The missing skills he discussed are the very skills being taught at WebDesign.com.
If you are an educator and are not thoroughly versed in WordPress, PHP, and related technologies, we encourage you to apply for the iThemes Education Program to have access to leading edge tools, technologies, and training to further your professional development. Our goal is to get these resources into the classroom so that students are prepared for what the evolving technology industry demands, and the first step is to get the tools in the hands of the educators.
