For several years now, the WordPress Developer Course has been the most comprehensive, in-depth, intensive and fun training offered here at WebDesign.com. This next WordPress Developer Course will be no exception!
On July 29 – August 3, 2013, members of WebDesign.com can attend six days of live, online intensive developer-focused training revolving around ecommerce and WordPress. This 20+ hour course includes 13 unique breakout sessions and over 200+ pages of documentation, code snippets, and other key resources every WordPress developer should have in their toolbox.
This WordPress Developer Course has a special focus of ecommerce. That means that every breakout session will have an ecommerce component and over the course of the entire week, we will be building a complete ecommerce WordPress-powered site.
What does the week look like?
Monday, July 29
On Monday, July 29th at 1pm CDT, we will kick off the week of training by focusing on several unique ways of installing WordPress that will create a strong and secure foundation for building your site. We will also be looking at the innerworkings of the wp-config.php file and how, with proper knowledge, this file can become the foundation for your entire site’s construction.
Tuesday, July 30
On Tuesday, July 30th, we have three sessions at 10am, 1pm, and 4pm CDT. In the first session, we will look at what it takes to develop mailbox money from the perspective of a developer building ecommerce-based sites for clients. Mailbox money is the lifeblood of any freelancer and can provide the residual income streams and extend the value of a client. During Tuesday’s second session we will be uncovering the power of Custom Post Types and the plugin Pods. When building a unique ecommerce site, many times you will need to have the ability to extend out the capabilities of WordPress and this can be done through Pods (and Custom Post Types). Finally, we will wrap up Tuesday’s sessions by taking a look at the necessary steps every developer needs to take to harden the security of WordPress.
Wednesday, July 31
On Wednesday, July 31st, we will again have three sessions at 10am, 1pm, and 4pm CDT. During these sessions we will be focusing heavily on themes and getting themes ready to sell products. The first session will dive into the flexibility and extendability that can be done to WordPress through the functions.php file of the theme as well as looking at the benefits of building your own Functions plugin. The second session of the day will be an intensive and advanced Builder theme bootcamp. Everything you need to know about how to get the most out of Builder will be covered in this session. In order to get the most out of this session, it will be necessary that you already are familiar with how Builder works or have watched the many pre-requisite videos replays that are available in the WebDesign.com Library. The final session of the day will deal with fine-tuning your WordPress SEO to enable you to help people find your store and products on the internet.
Thursday, August 1
On Thursday, August 1st, we will follow the pattern of the prior three days with sessions again at 10am, 1pm, and 4pm CDT. We will open up the training day by walking through the proper ways of working with jQuery inside WordPress. The next session is the heartbeat of the entire WordPress Developer Course as we dig into the new Exchange plugin by iThemes and see how useful this ecommerce plugin is for developers and how easy it is to extend the capabilities through hooks and filters. The final session of the day is always one of the more popular topics in past WordPress Developer Courses. I will be unveiling the new rankings of top WordPress plugins so you can have a firm grasp of the importance of a plugin to a WordPress developer.
Friday, August 2
On Friday, August 2nd, we will have only two sessions. The first session will start at 10am and will focus on the WordPress Loop and the flexibility of LoopBuddy and how simple it is to build a complex storefront using LoopBuddy’s query and layout editors. The second session will begin at 1pm and will walk attendees through the necessary steps that need to be taken to prepare a site for a client. There is nothing worse that a client receiving a finished site and they either don’t know what is going on or they break the site within the first 24 hours. This session will give you the tools to give a client the best possible experience in their new site.
Saturday, August 3
Finally, on Saturday, August 3rd starting 9am, we will be hosting a special add-on class that will feature a live Q & A session as well as follow up sections to help round out the entire 6 day event.
